Training a deaf puppy
Hi.
I have a wonderful shitzu pup...he is now almost 6 months old, but we got him when he was 5 weeks.
At about 2 1/2 months we realised he is deaf, and on top of that, he also has hip dysplasia which does not bother him, yet.
I am working on training him with hand signals, but he is also a typical pup...and many tips involved talking to th pup, I do have hand signals like thumbs up for good, fingers together for no or wagging finger, etc. Also really good is clapping or doing "jazz" hands. However, I am having a few issues with attention (and learned) barking and ignoring him only makes him worse...he gets very hot (we live in Cayman) and he gets very upset....he just does not stop. He has his "room", and really goes a bit nuts!
Any suggestions??
He is very smart, but is very attached to me--no one else gets the attention seeking behaviour....
Thanks!
