Lack of urgency
I have been training dogs for many years but am in a new territory with my latest adoption. She is a chow mix and she is true to the chow tendencies of being independent. She has learned her commands but her response time is on her own time or what we refer to as "tillie time". This can be frustrating and the only motivator I have found is treats but I do not want her to be dependent upon treat training. Also, I am a strong believer in alpha training and have taught her this since day one. She truly is a good dog but she just is not motivated. I have always been used to working dogs like labs, retrievers, shepherds ect. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
