Fostering YOUNG puppy

I have just started fostering a 5 week old Jack Russell mix(???) male puppy. Through several extenuating circumstances, I ended up with this pup. I know dogs need to stay with their mom and litter up through 8 weeks to be socialized correctly, but that was not an option. My neighbor is fostering a sibling so we are trying to keep them together as much as possible. I have crate trained and raised many dogs, but need guidance on how to handle a pup so young. I want him to grow up to be well socialized and happy. Please advise on how I should handle the sleeping situation with the pup. I want to crate train him, but am certain he's nowhere near ready for that. I have been sleeping beside his pen -inside his pen is a crate with the door opened- so that I can reach out and snuggle him when he's upset at night. He's been eating and drinking formula from a dish very well. (He's currently all played out and curled up with his neighbor brother and very happy.) Just don't want to mess up. Any help/advice is appreciated!
