Doesn’t like traveling
We got our GSP, Buckeye, last June when he was flown in from Oklahoma to Ohio. HE is our second GSP.
He does not like to travel and throws up. Doesn't even like to get in the van. We think it has to do with his being driven to the airport for travel to us.
He has been to the vet and does have Reglan to take 2-3 hours before we travel. This does postpone the throwup from happening from about 10 miles to over an hour. I sit close to him and talk to him while traveling, hoping to calm him. He salivated terriblly before the Reglan. Does still salivate a little even after taking the med.
Vet said there is another medication that is better but much more costly.
We leave the van doors open and take him into the garage. We have treats we give him, starting by giving him treats when he gets to the side of the van and slowly working up to where he jumps into the van to get treat and praise. Have just driven down the lane and parked, petted and talked to him and this still doesn't help.
I would have thought that by now, if anything from his life before us was causing it, would have subsided by now.
We try to take him places with us, and I would think that by now he would realize that by riding does not mean he will be leaving his family again. But it hasn't changed.
Meds may be available, but there is a cause that we can't figure out.
